STOCK DESIGN - Good stock design is essential to shootability. A stock must be tailored to the shooter to promote the greatest possible control in aiming and in recoil. With few exceptions, all N.L.Heineke, Inc. rifles utilize the cheek piece. Properly designed, this characteristic gives the shooters’ head maximum support and proper alignment for steadiness of hold. Yet, in recoil, acts like a reverse wedge and slides out from underneath the cheek, regardless of stock bend (drop). Grips are also important. A pistol grip should allow the hand to grasp the rifle without strain and provide easy alignment with the trigger. A slightly increasing forward-width creates a wedge that helps keep the hand in control of the rifle during recoil and knuckles away from the trigger guard. A forearm should be comfortable hold, substantial enough to control, yet keep the hand as close as possible to the barrel. Aiming a rifle should be akin to pointing your finger: natural and unencumbered. |
